How to always achieve goals

1332
There are only two basic units of measurement on which the likelihood of achieving the goals depends. We will call them “measure of delay” and “measure of control.” What relates to the final result can be attributed to the delay measure. Most people set their goals, relying on it.

As an example, the following goals:

– lose weight;
– make a million;
– build a successful business;
– To buy an apartment.

As you can see, the above examples cover the most global goals. And when the question of their achievement is raised, a person usually resorts to measures of delay, that is, one where you cannot directly influence the result.

Why not build too far plans

On the other hand, there is a completely different approach. The measure of control is what you can influence. Here are some examples:

– train for 30 minutes a day;
– write 1000 words per day;
– call 50 new customers per week;
– make 3 meetings per day.

Control measures are actions that may be most effective. Using them, in any case you guarantee yourself a positive dynamic of development. Explain how it works.

For example, your goal is to lose 10 kg in three months. To achieve this goal, you need to shift the focus of your attention from the measure of delay to the measure of control. That is, you should focus on the amount of exercise you can do each week. If you train, say, every day for 30 minutes, then in the end you will lose weight.

Your training is the process, the result of which you can control directly. You do not know for sure how many grams or kilograms of excess weight you will lose during exercise, and even more so for the reporting period. But you can independently regulate the number of performed approaches or determine the time spent on training. This is why, while working, you need to focus on intermediate goals, and not on finite ones.

Another example concerns work. If you want to increase sales in the allotted time, the concentration on the final figures may lead to nothing. Instead, you should again focus on things that you can control (for example, the number of outgoing calls made during the workday). The more people you call, the greater the chance that the ultimate goal will be fulfilled.

How to define your control measures

Control measures are sometimes difficult to identify, and sometimes they are so simple that they may not get your attention. Take at least weight loss: the number of minutes allocated to exercise, and the number of calories consumed per day – these are two important measures that are worth paying attention to. But many people in this situation do not track them, because they are lost in the general flow of affairs and sound too simplistic. When you are trying to define your measure of control, ask yourself the question: “What can I do to influence my results (goals)?”. The point is not how accurate the overall outcome will be, but how carefully you follow the established plan.

What control measures are most effective

The next step you can take is to rank your leading measures according to their impact. You have a limited number of hours per day, and therefore you cannot focus your energy on everything at once. That is why you have to concentrate on the measure of control that will give you the greatest impact.

For example, if you want to develop your blog, there are a number of basic steps you need to take. Here are some of them:

– writing and publishing quality content;
– positioning in social networks;
– publications in other blogs with similar subjects;
– advertising to attract traffic.

After you analyze all existing control measures, arrange each one in accordance with its effectiveness and ease of impact on it. That is, you can focus only on the first two points at the very beginning of work. Then you will not have to grasp at several cases at the same time, losing important details out of your attention. Only one or two tasks can improve your performance and lead to the final goal.

Is it possible to neglect the measure of delay?

Our answer: “No”. Although the measure of delay is a measure that you cannot predict or cannot influence, it is nevertheless of great importance. The reason is simple: if you influence only intermediate indicators, you will get a sense of false comfort due to the local results achieved. But they will not give you information about the results of activities to which you aspire in the end.

Therefore, you need both control measures and delay measures to maintain the balance of the situation. The measure of delay motivates you and sets the ultimate goal (for example, to lose 10 kg and look good). But at the same time, you need to act in accordance with your control measure in order to approach the achievement of the goal gradually.
